Welcome…

Travel with  me on my journey to learn the art of Italian cooking. I am not talking about the Americanized version of Italian food, but authentic Italian food. The kind of food you could eat in an Italian kitchen in Italy, in a small village or a bustling city. The kind of food that makes you feel warm inside and longing for more. The kind of food that most people don’t understand what it takes to make because they lack the passion, but love to eat!

My grandparents came to the US as immigrants in 1923 and 1929 and settled in the Mt. Washington area of Pittsburgh. They brought with them the village experience and cooking style from Campolieto, Italy. My father, one of three sons, learned to cook from his parents and I learned from him. All of them have passed on but I know the few basics. My desire is to learn more.

So join me on my quest. I hope to find, try and review recipes that I can collect and gather from a variety of sources.  I welcome all recipes from readers as well, but that doesn’t mean I will try them all. I am working with a food budget for a family of four so I am going to have to limit the amount of experiments I try!

Oh yeah, it doesn’t help that I have a son who doesn’t like red sauce unless it’s on pizza or, shudder, from a can of Spaghetti O’s. Must be the German part of him. One day that boy will like Italian food!

  1. Wow! I have never even considered making my own pasta but you made it look easy. Maybe one day I will get up the nerve to try it.
