I love to celebrate my birthday and anyone else’s birthday. I just love a good party.
That’s me up in that picture, the little blonde, with my dad behind me. We were celebrating my grandma’s birthday. Tomorrow is my birthday and I am not afraid to say I will be 44. I am thankful to God that He allowed me to live this long and has blessed me beyond belief in my lifetime. It’s not always been an easy road, my life that is, but I have walked on that road with Jesus for the last 28 years. I could not have made it otherwise. This is me with my first-born daughter and my dad. I was about 16.
I also happen to share my birthday with my older cousin, she is 9 years older. I wonder if she thought I was one of her gifts? I’ll have to ask her since we are going to her surprise birthday party this weekend back in my hometown of Pittsburgh. Don’t worry, I didn’t spoil the surprise, she doesn’t read my blog. That’s my cousin, the birthday twin, on the right, my older sister is the baby, my other cousin and my grandma. I’m guessing this was 1963 or 1964.
One year, my 13th birthday, was a sad year. My parents were newly separated and my grandfather was sick. He passed away late that evening but it was before midnight. It was still my birthday. I can remember my mom getting that call and me crying about him dying. I had no idea what I would miss with his death. My grandma knew because she died 8 months later, most family told me it was due to a “broken heart” because she didn’t know how to live without grandpa. I get that because if Phil died I am not so sure I could go on. He is one of my biggest blessings in life. Here is my whole family last year at Christmas, the twins were in utero.
This year my daughter is going to cook me a special dinner of fresh mozzarella stuffed chicken meatballs, spaghetti, salad and focaccia bread. She is also making me a chocolate cake with raspberry and dark chocolate frosting. Can you say yum? I can’t wait. I get to spend a lot of time with Phil and have dinner cooked for me with friends coming for cake plus go to a party for my cousin. It will be a whole weekend of celebrating, as it should be.
Oh yeah, I get to go shopping for new boots, that is what Phil is giving me as a gift, among other things. He knows that I have been wearing the same boots for about 8 years and they are not warm. He also knows I hate shopping for myself and footwear is the worst so for him to take me shopping for boots says a lot about his endurance and love for me!
I wish all my kids and grandkids could be with my on my birthday but it’s not possible this year. Maybe next year for the big 4-5 they can be. In any case, I’ll be very busy over the next few days and won’t be blogging. Next week look for a review of CSN online stores, the book I was sent called “Beyond The Pasta” by Mark Leslie and a recipe or two.
Don’t forget to vote in the Poll. You can see it on the sidebar. Thanks!!!
