I’m up early but not too early to begin the preparations for our Thanksgiving dinner. First I had to watch the parade in NYC. Then get in some football. Phil has to work to we will be eating later this evening. Lauren and Za will be here but not Brit and her family. We are having the typical menu of turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, cranberry sauce (canned), green beans (not the casserole), bread and pumpkin pie. Lauren is doing the pies and stuffing and I will cook the rest here. I am excited to use my new oven for today’s cooking. Let’s hope the turkey doesn’t dry out. I am making green beans with bacon, parmesan cheese and bread crumb topping baked in the oven. For the mashed potatoes, I am using my brand new-to-me food mill, story follows. Lauren has a special recipe for stuffing with pecans and cranberries or something like that. Sounds good in any case. I can’t wait!
Last night Phil and I had to go out and fill some of our water jugs, we have softened well water that is very salty to drink. We decided to make a quick stop into Goodwill to look around. We found a bunch of new icicle Christmas lights for $1.00 a box. We bought 5 of those for the garage. But my big find was a food mill! I could not believe it! I have been looking for a while for one of these. Here is a picture of what I found.
This normally costs about $50.00 from Amazon and the like but I got it for $3.00!!! I am so excited. I am going to make the mashed potatoes with it today to try it out. I can’t wait to make roasted tomato soup and tomato sauce with this mill.
So have a happy Thanksgiving to all my faithful readers. Enjoy the time you spend with family and friends around the dinner table today. Make memories and new traditions.
