My future is bright!

At least to me it’s bright. Just a few short years ago I never dreamed I’d be where I am today. When I started this blog and my cooking journey, the only goals I had were to learn about the ways my ancestors cooked, more about my heritage and possibly improve my picture-taking skills when it comes to food. In actuality so much more has happened.

I started teaching cooking classes at a great place near my hometown, learned how to take better food pictures, got in touch with distant relatives to make family connections to my heritage, and sought out other venues for teaching cooking classes. A few months ago I became interested in studying genealogy which led me to begin a family tree at I researched both mine and my husband’s family lines. With my side, it’s rather simple in that all of my grandparents or great-grandparents came to the US from their home countries around the turn of the 20th century. My husband’s family dates back to the 1600’s in one line. It’s been very exciting to play the part of family historian/detective as I research and gather information, photos and stories from various relatives.  I’m at a point where I am ready to travel to a county one hour south of where I live to find out more answers for my husband’s family lines. The county library there has a great genealogy department and so far they have provided me with so much information. I want to go and see in person the documents and gather more information since we are at a stopping point in one of Phil’s lines. We’ve always heard rumors that one side came over on the Mayflower but I have not been able to confirm this fact yet. It might be they followed those who came on the maiden voyage of the Mayflower. There was a Mayflower company established after the maiden voyage which had many sailings on several ships in the years following the first settlers in Massachusetts.

This week I am attending a free seminar on business basics through the local SCORE chapter. SCORE is a non-profit group of retired executives helping entrepreneur minded people and others interested in small business. I’m excited to explore the options open to me in the business realm. I really don’t know what direction I want to go but what I do know is whenever I knock on a door where I feel I can hold cooking classes, they’ve all been opened to me. I’m considering a few options such as in-home private lessons or the occasional stint as a private chef. I have one of those jobs coming up this summer and I’m super excited about it. In the second week of July I have an appointment with a business mentor, again all free through the SCORE chapter, who will listen to my ideas and hopefully help me figure out if I need or want to establish a small business.

There is one more opportunity I want to share about and this is a speaking engagement at my local library about Italy. I called the library asking if I could do a pasta making demo as a short children’s or adult’s program and what it turned into was me giving a presentation to the International Club, which meets a few times a year to learn about a different country. The evening usually includes an educational type presentation along with photos or food or a Q & A period. I’m going to speak about the culture and food history of Italy and give a short pasta making demonstration. I’ll make a few other foods for the people to sample. Some of the club members will also provide food for the evening. I’m looking forward to sharing what I’ve learned about Italy in the last few years but I really had hoped to have taken a trip there myself by now. One day I will visit Italy!

I’m very thankful to God for opening these doors to me. It amazes me because in and of myself, I am nothing. But with Him, I have it all and can do anything He leads me to.

  1. I am excited for you Michelle! Keep going after it, girl! I wonder what you have to share in a years time. Amazing how things can develop from one thing into another.

  2. Awesome, awesome! Like you, not always sure which direction God is leading me, but trying to be faithful that God holds the plan not me! Even happier now to know that I’ve not only met another Momma Entrepreneur wanna-be, but a faithful Christian one! Cheers Michelle to an incredible work-for-families future!
