If you are familiar with Italian movies or have read my post, My Favorite Movies About Food, tonight is going to be one of my “big nights”. It’s the night I cook for the very people who generously gave their time, money and service to my husband and I on our wedding day, exactly eighteen and one half years ago today, by cooking a wonderful appetizer reception for us. It’s a fond memory for us and I’m sure it is for them as well. We call this group “the gang” and know who we mean. They do likewise.
The menu for this evening was chosen by the ladies from a list I’ve made for private lessons and other events such as this. Here is their chosen dinner:
Cheese plate appetizer with wine
Rosemary and Sea Salt Focaccia Bread
Asparagus, Cherry Tomato and Mozzarella Salad
Ricotta Cheese Gnocchi
Braciole’ braised in red sauce
I’ve been practicing and perfecting some of these recipes over the last few weeks. I’ve changed the cooking method of the braciole’ to meet the needs of a dinner party setting and I am hoping it will work out well. I’ve been playing around with the Tiramisu recipe so that it is something we can make there and still get lots of flavor without needing 6 hours in the refrigerator to chill. So far I’ve discovered a few ways to make the filling and since I’ve never had the classic Tiramisu (shameful, right?), I’m not sure if my filling recipe meets the standard as far as taste goes. I guess I will find out later.
I’m really trying to be relaxed about this whole thing and I’m doing good so far. I have lists made and have organized my cooking equipment that I need to take. There are still a few minor details and the big food shopping that needs completed but otherwise I am all set to go.
Now if I could only find a way to cook barefoot in someone else’s kitchen? And I hope to snap a few photos of the food and prep while I’m there.
